Who We Are
The Miller Family:
Fred & Sandy Miller
The owners Sandy and Fred Miller have been entrepreneurs for 40 years and have owned several businesses including Harvest Day Wholesale (natural food distributor), Pine Ridge assisted-living and Miller construction. Their son Rob introduced them to the hydroponic/aquaponic farming idea. Miller Family Farm was created to be a stainable business on the old family farm in Carney, Michigan that would serve the local community by providing healthy produce to grocery stores, farmers markets, restaurants, schools and hospitals in the area.
Jake is the oldest of the Miller children and is in charge of the fish operations. This includes harvesting, processing, and caring for the fish. He also has many other roles at the farm including tending to the wood boiler, cutting wood, plowing snow and mowing as well as making deliveries to our customers.
Dawn is the full time general manager of the farm and is in charge of the daily operations. She oversees the planning, planting, harvesting, packaging, and distribution of farm produce. Dawn is also the farm’s chief financial officer and head of human resources, preparing budgets for daily operations as well as capital improvement projects, monitoring and controlling expenditures, and managing accounts receivable and payroll.
Hannah is the second of three children and works primarily in the lettuce greenhouse planting, transplanting, and harvesting lettuce and other greens. She also has other roles which include pruning and picking in the tomato greenhouse, packaging produce for market and general office duties.
Rob Miller is the farm’s technical director, sales and marketing manager, and he oversees new projects. Rob ensures the farm’s systems are operating and producing at optimal efficiency. He evaluates and implements process improvements and new innovations here at the farm in order to grow the highest quality produce. Rob also enjoys working with our customers to ensure our produce is delivered fresh to the consumer. He loves to share his knowledge and gives tours to the public.
Jon is the youngest of the Miller children. He prunes, picks and packages produce as well as tend the fish. He also helps with the wood, snow removal and general farm maintenance.
